Welcome Back West Coast Spring

The Spring

Now that the winter's gone, the earth hath lost
Her snow-white robes, and now no more the frost

Candies the grass, or casts an icy cream
Upon the silver lake or crystal stream;

But the warm sun thaws the benumbed earth,
And makes it tender; gives a sacred birth

To the dead swallow; wakes in hollow tree
The drowsy cuckoo, and the humble-bee.

Now do a choir of chirping minstrels bring
In triumph to the world the youthful Spring.
Poem by Thomas Carew

I was born 4 days after spring.
It's one of those seasons that breaks the quiet dormancy with it's light. It brings a smile to my face to see little green shoots sprouting all about the earth and buds forming on the branches of neighborhood trees.

It's a new awakening...you can feel the anticipation of new life emerging all around you...

Spring on the West Coast is particularly lovely.
The magnolia trees, the wide variety of cherry blossoms...one can't help but feel lifted with the thought of summer around the bend...

I've lived on the West Coast for over 20 years now and I feel so fortunate to have been surrounded with such an abundance of nature. The beauty of the West Coast definitely creates a calm within the spirit which I think attributes to the care free spirits that inhabit this part of the world.

As a designer, it seems only natural to create a
Spring Collection inspired by the West Coast.

For Spring Summer 2015 I wanted to capture the free spirit and rocker chic vibe of the music festival scene, while incorporating a natural look so synonymous with West Coast Living.
I love the Woodstock era and all things wild child. I wanted this new collection to be reminiscent of that era, but with a light and airy modern touch.

The Nico Kimono is hands down my favourite piece from the Spring-Summer 2015 collection. Made from vintage fabrics, the contrast lining and collar details make this kimono light and versatile.

Adhesif’s eye-catching, handmade garments are designed with older textiles and reclaimed materials for better quality and each piece is created with 95% sustainable materials. Monochromatic schemes and colour palettes and clean silhouettes define the effortlessly chic spring-summer collection.

Not from around here?
No sweat!

Check out our Etsy Shop where you can find pieces from our Spring-Summer collection up for grabs plus dozens of our other one-of-a-kind beauties to keep your style fresh this Spring!

My Love for Vintage Eyewear

I absolutely LOVE vintage fashion & accessories...

So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I came across a
Die Brillenwerkstat
(a vintage eyeglass boutique)
during my annual visit to Konigstein in the Taunus region of Germany.

Die Brillenwerkstat offers eyewear from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Most of the frames are original and unworn dead stock pieces.

But what is dead stock you may ask?
Typically a term used in the vintage fashion scene.

A term used to describe merchandise that was never sold to or used by consumers before being removed from sale, usually because it was outdated. Dead stock is often warehoused, but it can also subsequently be offered for sale and typically retains its original package and tags

Each pair of glasses tells a story and symbolizes an era.
(one of the many reasons for my love for vintage fashion...I love a good story)

Being that retro chic is usually always a big deal in the fashion world, cheap generic reproductions of vintage frames are mass made and sold in fast fashion outlets like Urban Outfitters or H&M but NOTHING beats the real deal.
Vintage frames not only have better character but are often made with superior craftsmanship.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Thomas Neumann is also a certified optician who provides friendly, competent advice and is a wealth of historical information for each specially hand selected pair he offers in his well curated shop.
He offers reliable service when selecting your very own coveted pair of vintage frames.

Max picked out his second pair of vintage frames on our last visit (above)
A sweet pair of drool worthy 1930's Tortoiseshell frames. Thomas told us that the only other similar pair he had was sold to jazz musician from New Orleans...so badass!

I got myself a pair of dead stock 1950's cat eye sunnies (with real glass frames) which I adore and wear daily...AND they were also only 20 Euro...what a steal!

I know what you're thinking...Germany's way too far away for you to visit Die Brillenwerstat
but you're in luck!
Thomas has a great on-line shop where you can see some of his great offerings!

Can't wait for my next visit!

Inspiration Nation - A Recent Euroland Adventure

When the year winds down to an end, the Adhesif Clothing shop closes up for a few weeks. This is when I get the chance for a much needed recharge of batteries & for a change in scenery.

...Every visual artist needs new imagery to be inspired by & Europe is a feast for the senses...

Once a year I get a break from my hectic 6 day work week schedule and
I high tail it to Europe, my second home.

I've been fortunate to have had the chance to do this now for the last 4 years and every year I choose a new place to visit I haven't yet been to.

Earlier on in January, it was Florence Italy..

I figured out why all of the buildings are painted soft hues of butter yellow, cream and terracotta...when the sun sets, EVERYTHING turns the loveliest shade of pink!
It's like looking at the world through rose colored lenses...

I couldn't resist...
JUST LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT CHEESE?!?

The famous Ponte Vecchio bridge filled with dozens of small fine jewellery merchants along the inside walkway...

Oh gosh...this must be one of the cutest shop displays I've ever seen at Boutique Nadine, where you could find the handmade work of indie Florence Designers as well as some very
cool vintage clothing & assesoire

So many cool boutiques with both eclectic & modern shop displays...

Italian leather...droooooool

Those Vinyl record lights were too awesome...

Super cool cafe's on every corner but this one,
a cafe Art Bar named Il Vinile (above) was my favorite!
Their whole motif was 90's grunge metal and rock classics & the ESPRESSO! :-D
The caffeine junky/rock chic in me was totally stoked dude

There were some very interesting & at times interactive shop display windows. I really loved the fact that this shop (above) had the shop dressmaker sewing away in the window. I find there's a lot more appreciation for handmade craftsmanship in Europe generally speaking.
This I LOVE!

The winding back streets themselves had me finding some pretty trippy street art in the most unlikely of spaces...

One of my favorite things to do in general is People watching.
There's never a dull moment in a vibrant, bustling European city center.

A great way to pass the day while wandering the streets...

That talent of the chalk artist (above) totally blew my mind

The inside of the Duomo...breathtaking

104 steps later...

 (pant pant)

In our home away from home on the 5th floor of our air B & B with a view that made up for the workout...

Florence was vibrant, friendly & easy going place to visit and a great way to bring in the new year.
I highly recommend it

Now filled with a resurgence of inspiration and back to work, first things first...
A NEW DISPLAY wall!
It was the first thing created at the Adhesif Clothing shop the very next day of arrival back into Vancouver...

Framed Pinocchio & Butter yellow wall display compliments of the influence of Firenze Tuscany.
Until next time Euroland & thanks...
