Adhesif Clothing welcomes Raven Mountain into our clan of artisans

The Adhesif Clothing Shoppe is pleased to welcome our newest addition to our growing artisan clan, featuring amazing leather work by "Raven Mountain"

Raven Mountain was created by Lady Luck Bug, in her kitchen studio in 2010.
Based out of beautiful Golden BC Canada she specializes in making wearable art out of leather.

Raven Mountain believes in making fashionable as well as functional pieces that will last for many years. Huh...funny that...because that is exactly the same moto we here strive for at Adhesif Clothing.
A BIG part of having a sustainable mind frame means quality versus quantity.
I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely ladies behind "Raven Mountain" at the "Out of Hand" market in Victoria, BC and I got to tell you...I was SUPER impressed with their handy work!

Accessories and Moccassins created by Raven Mountains are made using an incorporation of traditional leather techniques, with a modern twist in the imagery. Lady Luck Bug tools, pyrographys, stains and stitches every piece by hand. Guaranteeing that everything is one of a kind!

As I hung out with Tammy, the creator, she spoke to me of her process...In the middle of our conversation, I asked her to show me her hands (as I know how difficult leather work can be on the hands)..."yup" I smiled and said, "those are the mighty beautiful  hands of an artisan". Tammy went on to to tell me how she jabbed her finger the other day with her Awl...OUCH! For ALL of you out there (no pun intended) below is a picture of an "Awl"...a primary tool in hand making leather pieces...

Tammy went on to tell me how much time and trial and error was invested into mastering the creation of her Moccasins, to insure the skills needed to have the confidence that Raven Mountain will only make high quality wears. Lady Luck Bug also owner of Rainbow Threads has incorporated her unique skills
of appliqué to create stunning foot wear.

We are proud to say we now carry a selection of "Raven Moutain's" handmade ankle fringe moccassins (above).  The hide is very durrable and is a cross between nubuck and suede. The moccassins also have crepe souls sewn right into the moccassins! These leathery wonders are some of the nicest and most well made mocc's I've ever seen. Come by and have a gander and try on a pair while quantities last! ;)

Like this dreamy, 3 quarter length sleeve, saffron colored trench by Mortar & Pestle Apparel...

HOORAY for pockets!

Also by Mortar & Pestle are the Elm Shorts, a perfect alternative to pants when layered with wooly cable knit tights and the high waisted, a-line Spruce Skirt. A staple no women should be without in her fall-winter wardrobe. Available in both tan and navy.

Also hot off the press are new chic arrivals by Cokluch from Montreal. All of Laurie & Christine's handmade leather apparel and accessories are made with up to 80% recycled leather! Now THAT'S impressive...

Not to mention these girls craftsmanship is totally impecable. I myself own one of their hobo style bags as well as a shapely, hooded motorcycle inspired leather trench which I recieve compliments on EVERYTIME I wear it. Colkuch is only available in 2 stores in Vancouver. One of them of course being the Adhesif Clothing Shoppe at 2202 Main Street.

What better way to pair off your cool rocker chic look but with a pair of your favorite jeans...what's that you say? You're heading out for a night out on the town and you need something a bit jazzier then your regular denim? We have the perfect solution for you...

Uh huh...that's right. High waisted ruffle bum jeans by TRUNKSHOW! Man alive...these are some seriously hot pants. With a full size run available every lovely shaped diva can covet her very own pair!

Another great essential to every women's wardrobe should be a hand crafted buttery soft leather wrap belt by Bronsino available in 4 different styles.

There's a reason why these belts are one of out best selling items in the shop! This is the perfect stylish accessory for litterally transforming items you already own in your closet. Also, these belts are ideal for box cuts and draped designs. An essential with dresses that have an elasticized waistline as well as oversized sweaters and coats.

Adhesif Clothing's Hipster Musing's

Now that it's officially September and there is that slight bite in the air...let's face it Fall is on the way. No need to fret...remember Fall is fun with fashion! It's time to start layering. Need some wardrobe inspiration?

Adhesif Clothing’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection has a relaxed hipster chic vibe that channels Little Red Riding Hood, Jackie O., and Woodstock, all rolled into one!

Wear the sophisticated three-quarter length Oh Jackie Jacket (above), made from reclaimed wool, plaid-tartan, and vintage wool blankets, finished off with an eclectic assortment of vintage buttons.

Or, take a stroll down memory lane in the Little Red Riding Hood inspired
bright plaid Concha Capelet (above) or the Cache Cloak (below) that features
a fitted hood and contrasting wrap-around belt and cuffs.  “Hands down,
the Cache Cloak is my favourite piece in the entire collection,” says the
Montreal born Vancouver designer, Melissa Ferreira.

“I used a lot of vintage tweed, wool suitings, and printed cotton twills in a colour palette that reminds me of a sunset on an open field in the prairies,” explains Melissa. “Many pieces have a drapey feel to them but
pieces like the Cache Cloak (above) and the Sticks & Stones dress have a ‘sack or box cut’ look.” (below) which has fun pockets and an exposed back zipper. Leave it loose or belt it for a more fitted look!

Have a foot-stomping good time in the earthy Saddle Skirt (below), a high-waisted layered number. Be artsy chic in the reversible "Suit Wrap Scarf" and the Boom Town Blouse is sure to brighten up those cool autumn mornings (made entirely from reclaimed printed cotton twills)

“This collection was shot by Patryk Widejko http://widejkophotography.com/
at the amazing Native Education Centre,” explains Melissa who loves that the space actually resembles a traditional longhouse. “The cedar gives the feeling of a natural setting and the door
we used in many of the shots actually represents the leaving of all negative energy” – so fitting for this environmentally friendly line!

The Bold and Lucid Works of Nicholas Tay

If you have yet to visit the Adhesif Clothing Shoppe then you wouldn't know that our shoppe features a new local artist every 2 months. Pretty cool hey?

Right now, through to October, we have paintings by a very talented (and extremely organized!!!) painter extraodinaire by the name of Nicholas Tay.

First, let me begin with how I came across Nicholas...

One fine afternoon while I was getting some much needed pampering at our local and organic JSpa
(known for their organic facials  http://jspavancouver.squarespace.com/ you should go, seriously good )
While soaking my tender tootsies I noticed  a book lying by my side..."Anthology Collected Stories" by Nicholas Tay. Naturally, I picked it up and was instantly intrigued...

In his self published book there is a colorful visual array of cityscapes, wildlife, cartography, photographic illustration  mixed with short stories & poems (which are equally as interesting visually)

Julia (from Jspa) must have noticed how captured I was by Nicholas's book that she recommended I ask him to show at Ye' Ol Adhesif Shoppe. "Gasp"...I said..."Do you really think he would be interested in showing his work at our shop??"
Voila! The rest is history! After meeting Nicholas I was so extremely impressed by not only his attention to detail but his almost natural drive and obvious passion for his craft.

Words from Nicholas-About the Art;
The pieces collected here are selections from the series
Imperfect Offerings. The work is a meditiation on the life we sacrifice,
the monuments we build and the love we give.
About the ArtistNicholas Tay loves to make a mess with colours. He studied
illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. This
education prepared him for a lack of sleep and his career as an Art
Director and Artist on such notable videogame franchises as Need for
Speed, NBA Street and SSX. Recently, Nicholas has added gallery shows, costume design and advertising illustration to his area of play. His client list includes: Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Hasbro, Cossette, Stuff
Magazine and the Vancouver Canucks.

See his website for more info on his work...

Wowzers! I'm impressed...drawings, paintings, a book and what's this?! Toys too?? What does this man NOT do?? Nicholas has also created a toy line called "Gup Gups". What are they? Whimsical, imaginative,  fun little creatures you can personally create "the" story for...
http://www.gupgups.com/
I know, so fun right?

If you happen to be in the Main Street area, come to 2202 Main Street to check out Nicholas Tay's work in the 3D!
